Red Dragon Fruit
Red dragon fruit, also known as pitaya or strawberry pear, is a tropical fruit that is native to Central and South America. The fruit has a bright red, leathery skin with green scales. Inside, the flesh is a deep red color and contains small black seeds.
To eat red dragon fruit, simply cut it in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. The fruit can be eaten as is, or added to smoothies, salads, or desserts. It has a sweet and slightly tangy taste.
When selecting a red dragon fruit, look for one that is slightly soft to the touch and has a bright red color. If the fruit is hard, it is not yet ripe. To ripen a dragon fruit, leave it at room temperature for a few days.
To store dragon fruit, it can be refrigerated for a few days, wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent drying out.
Here is a simple recipe:
Dragon Fruit Sorbet:
1 red dragon fruit, peeled and seeded
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon lime juice
In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.
In a blender, puree the dragon fruit and lime juice. Stir in the cooled sugar syrup.
Pour the mixture into a shallow container and freeze for 1 hour. Stir the sorbet and freeze for another hour. Repeat this process for 2-3 hours, or until the sorbet is firm. Serve and enjoy!
